| Choosing Your Tools | |
| Once
you have decided what to build, and have purchased your first kit, or
components, you will need to look into getting the proper tools; these
range from simple cotton swabs to airbrushes, and various knives and
workbench accessories.
1. Hobby or Metal Nail File No matter what you choose to use for the construction of your first project, the hobby file will prove to be invaluable in the removal of barbs from pieces of kit, and the shaping of some components. Nail files can also be used during finishing, in order to add scratches and scuffs to some projects. 2. Sanding Films or Regular Fine Grain Sand Paper This is useful to remove surface anomalies, shaping wooden, and/or fiberglass models, and adding texture to others during finishing. 3. Tweezers When your fingers are too big to reach, and you need to pick up that tiny piece that keeps falling inside the cockpit, or applying decals to the surface of a model. 4. Dremel Tool In some cases, as when you are building from scratch, you will find this device to be very useful, whether you are drilling, or even buffing parts of your model. Since this is a more expensive item, we recommend you find out if you're really into model building first, so you you don't end up spending needlessly. 5. Needlenosed Pliers To have, and to hold. These are very useful in a variety of situations, and can even be used as a makeshift vice, when your three hands are holding both the glue and the two components you are trying to assemble. |
