Choosing Your Tools (cont.)

13. Glue Pen

No mess, no fuss, precise.  Why oh why did it take so long for this neat little item to be invented?

14. Scissors

Always handy, although not as precise as hobby knives, a good pair of scissors will help you cut larger plastic pieces, and around decals.

15. Hobby Knives

Many assorted styles to choose from.  perfect for working on aircraft models, not for boarding aircraft.

16. Cotton Swabs

These can be used as substitutes for paintbrushes (on large areas), also good for absorbing surplus paint or glue spills, and also to remove paint using thinner.

17. Paint Brushes

We suggest you start by getting your hands on some of standard brushes offered by Testors, et., and then reassess what you feel would be indispensable.   If you really want to go for the best option, we recommend you invest in a proper airbrush kit, as covered in the "painting your kit" section.

18. Palette

You may not need as many paint colors as you think, sometimes the right shade is just a question of careful blending.  We recommend you get a plastic palette, which is more suited to working with enamels.

19. Face Masks and Protective Eyewear

These are available from hardware stores in a variety of styles and degrees of protection.  You should wear a mask when using glue, paint thinner, paint, and any other noxious compound.  It is also a good idea to wear protective goggles and the mask when sanding, or scrubbing parts with hazardous chemicals.
